WCTSMA Packs Yakima Convention Center for State Competition

Over 700 WCTSMA members invaded the Yakima Convention Center last weekend for the 20th annual Spring Symposium and State Competition. Total numbers were close to 900 with vendors, proctors and other support personnel.

Houston Kraft and Jim Wallis captivated the crowd with their "Rock Star" performances behind the microphone. WCTSMA State Officers went out with a "bang" as most entertained their last duties on the student board. New State Officers were selected while 2 returning State Officers will resume the duty of president in a co-chair position.

Issaquah High School defended their state title with a win over Wenatchee in a usual tight battle. Our California friends, Valencia, proved their intelligence with a strong 3rd place finish and a number 6 finish overall in grade point average.

Results will be available shortly on the website as we piece together student forum, poster presentations, JV quiz bowl, and speed taping finishes.

The State Competition is Here!

On Thursday April 24, 2014, vehicles full of sports medicine students, instructors, and support personnel will be arriving in Yakima, Washington for the 20th meeting of the Spring Symposium and State Competition.

Please read the final BOD letter addressing last minute updates for the event. We will continue to update you here on this site with last minute notices. Please make sure to check the WCTSMA State Competition section for important notices. The Final Schedule has been posted there for you to print off for your needs.

We look forward to seeing everybody in a few short days!

Enumclaw Places 2nd in California Competition

WCTSMA members from Enumclaw High School competed in the 13th annual St. Francis High School Sports Medicine Competition. Competitors took a written, oral, and taping component for the testing. Enumclaw finished 2nd in the small school team division which qualifies them for the online national championship event held in May. WCTSMA members who competed were State President Matteo Molieri, State Officer McKenna Patrick, State Officer Stefan Alvidiez, Jazmyn Anderson, Katy Armstrong, and Sam Fisher. Vice President Angela Bushmaker is their instructor. Way to go Enumclaw!

Big Numbers! Big Names! Big Fun!

In two weeks WCTSMA will converge on Yakima for the 20th annual Spring Symposium and State Competition. Record numbers of students will fill the halls of the Yakima Convention Center. Over 700 are already signed up for the event.

Houston Kraft will speak to the membership on leadership and Jim Wallis will tell his story about the development of kiniseo taping while providing a "hands on" workshop for instructors.

The event will "kick off" with a Thursday evening social at the YMCA where teams can check-in early for registration. The new addition to this year is a Friday night dance hosted by your State Officers. Teams are encouraged to dress in their school colors while instructors and staff will be sporting their 70's swag.
